Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge
Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge — Time every hot and cold round and keep an honest record
Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge is a free Android sauna timer and journal for Finnish, infrared and steam sessions. One tap switches between the heat and the cold plunge, the app counts your rounds, and the log opens already filled in. It counts time and never tells you how long to stay — you decide when to leave.

It counts time. It never tells you how long to stay.
The Live Timer records what you did rather than setting a target for you. The only prompt you act on is your own tap between hot and cold, and the optional Coach keeps its suggestions inside conservative limits and says plainly that they are not medical advice.
What it is
Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge is a free Android session tracker for Finnish saunas, infrared saunas and steam rooms. A Live Timer switches between hot and cold phases with one tap and counts completed cycles, then hands a filled-in draft to the session log, which also records temperature, mood before and after and a note. Stats show a weekly minutes goal, a streak and a cold-cycle trend. It is a timer and journal, not a medical app.
Inside the app
What it looks like

Background
What is worth recording about a sauna session, and how do the sauna types differ?
A useful sauna record captures what actually happened: which kind of sauna, how long you stayed, how hot the room was, how many times you moved between heat and cold, and how you felt before and after. Memory is poor at this. After a few visits, a short log lets you see your own pattern, such as whether a longer first round leaves you feeling better or worse, without anyone telling you what you should do.
Finnish saunadry heat with löyly
A traditional Finnish sauna is a hot, dry room heated by a wood-fired or electric stove, where water is thrown on the stones to make a burst of steam called löyly. Sitting higher on the benches is hotter, so bench height is one way people adjust the heat.
Infrared saunalower air temperature
An infrared sauna uses panels that warm the body directly, so the air in the cabin is usually cooler than in a Finnish sauna. Session lengths and temperatures people note are therefore not comparable between the two types, which is why the log keeps them separate.
Steam roomhumid, not dry
A steam room is humid with a lower air temperature than a Finnish sauna and is heated by a steam generator. It feels different because the moisture slows how quickly sweat evaporates.
Hot and cold roundsthe usual structure
Many people alternate a spell in the heat with cooling down in a plunge, a cold shower, a lake or snow, then rest before going back in. Each pass is one round, and counting rounds is more reliable than guessing afterwards.
How it works
How a session goes in the app
The timer is built to be used with wet hands in a hot room, so most of a session is a single large button.
Start the Live Timer
Tap once to begin, then tap each time you move between the heat and the cold plunge. The timer counts completed hot and cold cycles, and you can pause, resume or restore a round if the app was closed.
Finish and review the draft
Tapping Finish opens the log already filled in with the type, total time and cycles. All that is left is a temperature, your mood before and after, and a note if you want one.
Look back at your pattern
Stats show a weekly minutes goal, your week streak, the last 12 weeks, a cold-cycle trend and your own logged mood before and after, with a breakdown by sauna type and by room.

Fit
Who it's for — and who it isn't
A good fit if you
- Use a Finnish sauna, infrared sauna or steam room and want a record of each visit
- Alternate between heat and a cold plunge, cold shower, lake or snow and want to count rounds without thinking about it
- Like a weekly minutes goal and a streak as a gentle habit nudge
- Use more than one sauna and want stats per room
- Prefer a timer that records what you did instead of telling you what to do
Not the right tool if you
- Want medical guidance, or a tool to manage a health condition — it is a timer and journal only
- Want the app to set how long you should stay in the heat — it never does
- Want a lone offline notebook with no account — entries are stored on the developer's servers, tied to your device
- Use an iPhone — this page covers the Android app
Safety and limits
Read this before you use a sauna or a cold plunge
Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge is a timer and journal, not a medical app. It does not diagnose, treat or promise any health outcome, and its Coach suggestions are general wellness ideas, not medical advice.
Heat is not safe for everyone. Talk to a doctor first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or blood pressure problems, or take medication that affects them. Never use a sauna after alcohol or when dehydrated, drink water, and leave at the first sign of dizziness, nausea or a racing heart.
Ease into the cold plunge and skip it if you have a heart condition. Cold water can trigger a gasp reflex, so do not plunge alone in open water.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to track sauna sessions?
Record each session as it happens, with the type, duration, temperature, number of hot and cold rounds and how you felt. Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge does this with a one-tap timer that fills in the log for you, so the record is complete without extra typing in a hot room.
Does the app work for infrared saunas and steam rooms as well as Finnish saunas?
Yes. Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge logs Finnish, infrared and steam sessions, and the stats break your sessions down by type and by room. You can save each place you use with its heater, whether you pour löyly and your cold source.
How does the cold plunge timer work?
Start the Live Timer and tap once each time you move between the heat and the cold. The app counts completed hot and cold cycles and shows the current phase. Tap Finish and the log opens pre-filled with the type, total time and cycles.
Will it tell me how long to stay in the sauna?
No. Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge counts time but never tells you how long to stay, and you decide when to leave. The optional Coach can suggest a protocol from your own history, but its numbers are kept within conservative limits and it is general wellness guidance, not medical advice.
What does the Coach do and what does it send?
The Coach suggests a protocol built from your own logged history, and you can load its targets into the timer. Before the first request it asks for consent and explains that the date, type, duration, temperature, cycles and mood scores of recent entries go to an AI model through OpenRouter. Notes are never sent, and consent can be withdrawn in Settings.
Is it safe to use a sauna with a heart condition or when pregnant?
Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge cannot say. Heat is not safe for everyone, so talk to a doctor first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or blood pressure problems, or take medication that affects them. The app is a timer and journal only.
Is Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge free?
It is free to download. Unlimited logging, the Live Timer, rooms, goal, streak, all stats, the guide, reminders and a shareable text summary of your week are free. The Coach gives one AI protocol a week, and the free version shows ads. Pro, monthly or annual, adds unlimited Coach protocols and Deep Analysis and removes ads.
Is Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge on iPhone or Android?
Sauna Timer & Log: Cold Plunge is available on Android through Google Play, in 10 languages. There is no iPhone version at the moment. Entries save on your phone while you are offline and sync later.
