Practice that never grades you.
A tool that scores your speech can turn every session into a test. This one only counts the work you did: a streak, minutes practised and a history of sessions with an optional self-rating, so there is something to see even on the days that felt hard.
What it is
Stuttering Speech Practice DAF is a free Android app on Google Play for self-guided speech practice by adults who stutter. It offers delayed auditory feedback with three delay presets, 12 paced reading passages with a visual metronome, easy-onset drills for gentle starts on vowels, words and phrases, and a private practice log with a streak, total minutes and a 1 to 5 self-rating for each session. It is a rehearsal tool, not therapy, treatment or a diagnosis, and does not measure or score your fluency.
Speech Practice is a self-guided rehearsal tool. It is not a substitute for evaluation or care from a licensed speech-language pathologist..
Inside the app
What it looks like

Background
What is delayed auditory feedback, and what can a practice app do?
Delayed auditory feedback, or DAF, plays your own voice back to you a fraction of a second after you speak. Some people who stutter and some speech-language pathologists use it as one technique among several, and how it feels and whether it helps varies from person to person. An app cannot assess your speech or replace a clinician, but it can give you a convenient, low-pressure place to rehearse between sessions.
Delayed auditory feedback (DAF)hearing yourself a beat late
You speak into headphones and hear a short echo of your own voice. The app offers short, medium and long delay presets, and it is honest that this is a practice-friendly approximation, not the same as dedicated clinical hardware.
Paced readingreading to a steady beat
Reading a passage aloud along to a metronome sets an even rhythm for your speech. The passages in the app are graded in three difficulty levels, and a pacing guide such as 130 words per minute gives you a tempo to aim for.
Easy onsetgentle starts to speaking
Easy onset is a technique for beginning a word or phrase gently, particularly on vowels, rather than with a hard push. Drills that move from vowels to words to phrases give you a clear short run of practice with a finish.
Working with a speech-language pathologistthe clinical route
A licensed speech-language pathologist can assess your speech and build a plan around your goals. If you have questions about your own speech, talk to one; this app is meant for rehearsing, not for deciding what is right for you.
How it works
How a practice session goes
The loop is short: open the app, pick a mode, practise, and optionally rate the session for yourself.
Pick a mode
Choose DAF Practice for delayed playback through your headphones, or Fluency Drills for paced reading and easy-onset work. The app asks you to use headphones or earphones, because a speaker lets the delayed sound feed back into the microphone.
Practise for as long as you like
Start a DAF session with a short, medium or long delay, read a passage at a slow, normal or fast pace, or paste in your own text such as a speech, an interview answer or notes for a call.
Log it, or do not
Give the session a 1 to 5 self-rating if you wish. The streak, total minutes, a 7-day activity chart and your last 20 sessions build up quietly in the background.

Fit
Who it's for — and who it isn't
A good fit if you
- Are an adult who stutters and want a private place to rehearse between sessions with a clinician
- Want to try delayed auditory feedback with headphones without special equipment
- Have a presentation, an interview answer or a call coming up and want to practise your own words
- Prefer a log that counts the work you did rather than scoring how you sounded
- Like short sessions of a few minutes
Not the right tool if you
- Want a diagnosis, assessment or treatment — the app offers none of these
- Expect it to replace a licensed speech-language pathologist
- Use an iPhone — the app is only on Google Play
- Want the bundled reading passages and tips in a language other than English or Turkish; you can still practise with your own text in any language
Safety and limits
A note on what this app is
Stuttering Speech Practice DAF is a self-guided rehearsal tool. It is not therapy, not treatment and not a diagnosis, and it makes no promise about how your speech will change.
The DAF here is a chunked, practice-friendly approximation, not the same as dedicated clinical hardware. If you have concerns about your speech, or if practice leaves you frustrated or distressed, talk to a licensed speech-language pathologist or another qualified professional.
Privacy
What happens to your voice
The delayed-feedback microphone is processed on your phone, and nothing you say is recorded or sent anywhere. The app starts as a guest, and the practice log shows only your streak, minutes and self-ratings.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free app for stuttering practice with delayed auditory feedback?
Stuttering Speech Practice DAF offers free, unlimited delayed auditory feedback practice on Android, with three delay presets and no session cap. It is a self-guided rehearsal tool for adults who stutter, with paced reading, easy-onset drills and a private log. It is not therapy or treatment.
What is DAF and how does the app use it?
Delayed auditory feedback plays your voice back through headphones a moment after you speak. The app captures short segments of your voice and plays each back after a brief delay, with short, medium and long presets. It describes this as a practice-friendly approximation, not the same as clinical hardware.
Does the app diagnose or treat stuttering?
No. Stuttering Speech Practice DAF is not therapy, not treatment and not a diagnosis, and it does not score your speech or measure your fluency. If you have concerns about your speech, talk to a licensed speech-language pathologist.
Do I need headphones?
Yes, headphones or earphones give the best results. Through a speaker the delayed sound goes back into the microphone and the effect breaks down, so the DAF screen reminds you to wear headphones before you begin.
What is easy onset?
Easy onset means starting a word or phrase gently instead of with a hard push, especially on vowels. The app's drills move from vowels to words to phrases and are grouped by category, so every practice run has a clear finish.
Can I practise with my own text or in another language?
Yes. You can paste in your own text, such as a speech, an interview answer or notes for a call, and practise it in any language you speak. The bundled reading passages and technique tips are written in English and Turkish, while the rest of the app is available in 10 languages.
Is Stuttering Speech Practice DAF free?
The core is free: unlimited DAF with all three delays, three reading passages, a full easy-onset run in every category, one saved custom text, the Progress screen and the tips library. The free version shows occasional ads. Pro adds the other nine passages, pacing feedback, the full easy-onset prompt library and unlimited saved texts, and removes ads.
Who is Stuttering Speech Practice DAF for?
It is for adults who stutter and want a private, low-pressure place to rehearse between sessions with a clinician, or before a presentation, interview or call. It keeps a streak, practice minutes and optional 1 to 5 self-ratings, and it does not score or measure your speech.
Why is the app called Speech Practice on my phone?
The store listing is Stuttering Speech Practice DAF, while the app's own title on the home screen and inside the app is Speech Practice. They are the same app, with the same developer and the same features.
Is Stuttering Speech Practice DAF available on iPhone or Android?
It is an Android app, available on Google Play. There is no iPhone version, and the app interface comes in 10 languages.
