Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture — A daily mewing exercise routine with a streak to protect

Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture is a free iOS and Android app for adults that turns a mewing exercise habit into a short daily routine: rest your whole tongue against the roof of your mouth, lips closed, teeth lightly touching, and let the app time the holds, count the days and remind you. It also holds a library of gentle jaw and neck exercises, a Learn tab on the technique, and private progress photos that never leave your phone.

A posture habit is built by repetition, not by one good day.

Mewing is just a resting position for the tongue, so there is nothing to lift or push through. What decides whether it sticks is whether you remember to do it, which is why the app is built around a short routine, one reminder and a streak counter rather than around any promise about your face.

What it is

Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture is a free iOS and Android habit app for practising mewing, the tongue-posture technique of resting the whole tongue flat against the roof of the mouth with lips closed and teeth lightly touching. It queues a short daily routine of posture holds and gentle jaw and neck exercises with a guided timer, tracks your streak with badges at 7, 30, 60 and 90 days, sends reminders, and keeps private progress photos on the device. It is a habit and posture-awareness tool, not a medical, dental or orthodontic device, and it makes no promise about how your jawline will look.

Jaw pain, clicking, TMJ symptoms or trouble breathing through your nose are reasons to see a dentist or doctor first. See Train safe.

Background

What is mewing, and what can a mewing exercise routine honestly do?

Mewing is the name for resting the tongue in a particular place: the whole tongue, tip included, flat against the roof of the mouth, with the lips sealed and breathing through the nose. It is named after the British orthodontist Dr. John Mew, and it is practised as a general posture habit rather than a treatment. Online claims that it reshapes an adult jawline are not something this app promises, and the app says so plainly. What a routine can reasonably do is make the correct resting position more automatic, which is a habit problem rather than a strength problem.

Correct tongue posturethe whole technique in one line

The full tongue rests against the palate with the tip behind, not pressed into, the front teeth. The lips stay closed, the teeth lightly touch and the jaw is relaxed. The common mistakes are pushing hard against the teeth and letting the tongue sag low in the mouth.

Nasal breathingpart of the resting position

Mewing assumes you breathe through your nose with your lips together. If breathing through the nose is difficult for you, that is a question for a doctor rather than something to force with posture practice.

Jaw and neck exercisesoptional extras, kept gentle

Beyond the tongue hold, routines usually add light work such as chin tucks, chin lifts and short jaw movements. They are meant to feel easy. Anything that strains, clicks or hurts is a signal to stop, not to push harder.

A realistic timelineweeks for the habit, nothing promised for looks

Most people notice the posture becoming automatic after several weeks of daily practice. Visible changes, if there are any at all, are not something anyone can promise, and they would take months rather than days. Progress photos are a personal record, not a measurement.

Where it stopsnot a dental or orthodontic treatment

Tongue posture is not a substitute for dental or orthodontic care. A bite concern, jaw pain or TMJ symptoms belong with a dentist, an orthodontist or a doctor.

How it works

How a day with the app works

Your routine for today is already waiting on the Home tab, so the habit takes a few minutes and no planning.

  1. Learn the position once

The Learn tab explains what mewing is, where the tongue should rest and a short list of dos and don'ts, so you start with the right position instead of a forced one.

  2. Start today's routine

Tap Start Routine and a guided player times each move, beginning with the mewing posture hold. The free routine is four exercises and takes a few minutes.

  3. Keep the streak and check in with a photo

Finishing the routine grows your streak toward the 7, 30, 60 and 90-day badges, and a reminder nudges you if the day slips. Take a progress photo whenever you like; it stays on your phone.

What's inside

What is in the app

18

Exercise library

Eighteen moves in four groups (posture, strength, definition and neck), from tongue press and swallow and hold to lateral jaw glides, cheek puff holds and neck stretches, each showing its difficulty and duration.

90

Streak and milestone badges

A current and longest streak, a weekly view and badges at 7, 30, 60 and 90 days, so it is obvious where you left off after a missed day.

Timer

Guided routine player

A step-by-step player times every exercise and shows the steps for each move, so you are not counting seconds in your head.

Learn

Technique and timeline

A Learn tab on tongue posture, what to do and avoid, and a realistic timeline, written without promises about your appearance.

Photos

Private progress photos

Photos are saved only on your device and are never uploaded or analyzed. The free plan shows your first and latest photo side by side, and Pro opens the full timeline.

Pro

Routine builder and more reminders

Pro adds the full library, a custom routine builder where you choose the exercises and their order, up to three daily reminder times instead of one, and no ads.

Fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't

A good fit if you

  • Already practise or want to try mewing and want a daily routine that tells you what to do
  • Forget the tongue position until you notice it and want a reminder and a streak to bring you back
  • Prefer a timed, step-by-step player over reading exercise descriptions
  • Want progress photos kept private on the phone rather than uploaded somewhere
  • Like the idea of a few minutes a day and are content to judge progress by consistency

Not the right tool if you

  • Expect the app to change the shape of your jaw or face, which it does not promise
  • Have jaw pain, clicking, TMJ symptoms, a bite concern or trouble breathing through your nose and have not yet seen a dentist or doctor
  • Want diagnosis, orthodontic advice or a treatment plan, which a clinician provides
  • Want the whole library, the routine builder and a full photo timeline without Pro
  • Are under 18, since the Play listing says the app is made for adults

Safety and limits

Train safe

Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture is a habit-building and posture-awareness tool. It is not a medical, dental or orthodontic device and it does not diagnose, treat or correct any condition. Progress is gradual, varies from person to person, and the timelines in the app are general guidance, not a guarantee.

Posture and jaw exercises should never feel like straining. Stop if you feel pain, and never force a stretch or try to crack or realign your jaw with your hands. Keep clenches light and brief and keep any hand resistance gentle.

Talk to a dentist, orthodontist or doctor first if you have jaw pain, clicking, TMJ symptoms, a bite concern or trouble breathing through your nose. The app is made for adults.

Privacy

What stays on your phone

Your routine history, streak and progress photos stay on your device, and photos are never uploaded or analyzed. The app uses an anonymous guest account only to keep track of your Pro status. The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob, purchases go through the App Store or Google Play and RevenueCat, and usage analytics come from Firebase.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a good app for a daily mewing exercise routine?

A useful mewing app does three things: it teaches the correct tongue position, it makes the daily habit short enough to repeat, and it reminds you when you forget. Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture does this with a Learn tab, a timed routine that starts with a mewing posture hold, a streak with badges at 7, 30, 60 and 90 days, and daily reminders. It is free on iOS and Android and makes no promise about changes to your face.

What is mewing?

Mewing is a tongue-posture habit: resting the whole tongue, tip included, flat against the roof of the mouth, with the lips closed, the teeth lightly touching and breathing through the nose. It is named after the British orthodontist Dr. John Mew and is practised as a general posture habit, not a medical treatment. Mewing Coach explains the position step by step in its Learn tab.

Does mewing change your jawline?

Nobody can honestly promise that it does, and Mewing Coach does not. The app states that it will not reshape your jawline or face and that adult bone structure does not change from tongue posture. What the app can do is help you practise the resting position until it becomes automatic, which most people notice after several weeks of daily practice.

How long should a mewing exercise session take?

Short and frequent works better than long and strained. The free routine in Mewing Coach is four exercises, a mewing posture hold, chin lifts, jaw clenches and chin tucks, done in a few minutes, and the app can queue a routine that fits the time you have each day. Longer sessions only make sense if nothing feels strained, and any pain is a reason to stop.

What exercises are in the Mewing Coach library?

The library holds 18 exercises in four groups: posture, strength, definition and neck. They range from mewing posture hold, tongue press to roof and swallow and hold to chin lifts, lateral jaw glide, cheek puff hold, chin tucks and neck stretches. Each exercise shows its difficulty and duration, and the routine player times every move.

Are my progress photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Mewing Coach saves progress photos only on your device and never uploads or analyzes them. The free plan shows your first and latest photo side by side, and Pro opens the full photo timeline. The app describes a photo as a personal record of your practice, not a measurement.

Is Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture free?

The app is free to download. The free plan includes the guided four-exercise routine, streak tracking with milestone badges, the Learn tab, one daily reminder and a first-and-latest photo view, and it shows ads. Pro is a monthly or annual subscription that adds the full 18-exercise library, a custom routine builder, up to three reminder times, the full photo timeline and no ads.

Can mewing exercises hurt my jaw?

Any jaw or neck exercise can if it is forced. Mewing Coach keeps its routines gentle and tells you to stop if you feel pain, never to force a stretch and never to try to crack or move your jaw by hand. If you already have jaw pain, clicking or TMJ symptoms, speak to a dentist, orthodontist or doctor before you start.

Do I need an account to use it?

No sign-up is needed. Mewing Coach uses an anonymous guest account only to keep track of your Pro status, and your routine history, streak and photos are stored on your device. The app is available in 10 languages and runs on iOS and Android.

Is the app a replacement for seeing an orthodontist?

No. Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture is a habit and posture-awareness tool and states that it does not diagnose, treat or correct any dental, orthodontic or medical condition. If you have a bite concern, jaw pain or trouble breathing through your nose, a dentist, orthodontist or doctor is the right person to ask.

Is Mewing Coach the same app as Jawline Trainer: Mewing?

Yes. The app is listed as Jawline Trainer: Mewing on the App Store and as Mewing Coach: Tongue Posture on Google Play, and this page uses the Mewing Coach name. It is the same tongue-posture routine, exercise library, streak and private progress photos on both stores.
