Understanding Reach versus Engagement

Learn the difference between how many see your content and how many interact with it.

Defining Reach

Reach is the number of unique individuals who saw your content during a specific time period. If your post was shown to 10,000 different people, your reach is 10,000 — regardless of whether any of them interacted with it. Reach is a measure of exposure and audience size, not of quality or interest.

Defining Engagement

Engagement is any interaction a viewer takes with your content: likes, comments, shares, saves, link clicks, video views, or reaction buttons. Engagement signals that a person not only saw your content but found it interesting or valuable enough to act on it. It is a qualitative indicator of content resonance beyond simple visibility.
