Why Guardrails Matter

PMax automation will optimize toward whatever you tell it to value, including the wrong things. Guardrails keep automation from wasting budget on low-quality conversions, brand traffic, or irrelevant placements.

The advanced job is not pulling manual levers; it is shaping the boundaries the machine operates within.

Brand Exclusions

By default PMax can claim brand searches you would have won organically or via cheap brand Search campaigns, inflating its reported ROAS.

Apply account-level brand exclusion lists so PMax focuses on incremental, non-brand demand. This makes its true performance visible.

Brand exclusion setup:
  Tools > Shared library > Brand lists
  add your brand + common misspellings
  apply to PMax campaign
  effect: PMax stops bidding on brand terms
