Given, Skipped and Undo move the schedule forward exactly as it happened, and if the same medication is logged as given twice within a short window the app stops to ask before it records the second one. That is what lets a vet, or the other person in your house, trust what the history says.

What it is

Pet Medication & Pill Reminder is a free iOS and Android app that reminds dog and cat owners when each dose is due and keeps a record of what was given. Every pet has its own medication list and schedule, from a daily reminder time on the free plan to several times a day or specific weekdays with Pro, and each dose is logged as Given or Skipped from a Today screen. The history groups doses by day and can be exported as a vet-ready summary. It is a reminder and a record, and it never calculates or suggests a dose.

Background

How do you keep track of a pet's medication, and why do doses get missed or doubled?

Pets on antibiotics, heart medication, joint supplements or monthly parasite prevention depend on a person remembering, often across several people and several times a day. Missed and doubled doses usually happen because nobody is sure what has already been given, not because anyone stopped caring. A timed reminder and a single dated record remove the uncertainty. The medicine, the dose and the schedule themselves always come from the vet and the label.

Dose scheduleset by your vet

Vet labels use Latin shorthand: SID is once a day, BID twice a day and TID three times a day. The app includes a vet shorthand glossary and can pre-fill the matching number of dose-time slots, but the label and your vet's instructions always take priority over anything the app suggests.

Adherencethe share of doses actually given

Adherence is the number of scheduled doses given out of the number that came due. The app shows it on a monthly calendar and in the history, and a finished course ends with a summary of doses given, skipped and missed.

Skipped versus missedtwo different entries

Skipped is a choice you record on purpose, while missed is a dose that came due and was never logged. Keeping the two apart gives a more accurate history of the course than a single blank.

Preventive careflea, tick, heartworm and worming

Preventives run on months rather than days, so the app tracks them as items with a next-due date and a reminder, on presets from every 14 days to yearly. Enter the product and the interval your vet set, and the app only remembers when the next one is due.

How it works

How the app works day to day

Setup takes a couple of minutes per pet, and after that the app asks only for a tap at each dose.

  1. Add a pet and its medication

Create a profile for a dog or cat, then add each medication with the dosage exactly as your vet wrote it, the dose times, whether it repeats every day or on specific weekdays, and a start and optional end date.

  2. Get the reminder and log the dose

A notification at each dose time names the pet and the medicine. Tap Given or Skipped, use Undo if you slipped, or set the real time if you gave it earlier. An optional follow-up nudge repeats once if the dose is still unlogged.

  3. Review the history and take it to the vet

Doses are grouped by day and can be filtered by pet, with an adherence calendar for the month. A vet-visit prep screen and an exportable summary put the record in a form you can bring to an appointment.

What's inside

What is in the app

2 pets

Free for two pets

The free plan covers up to two pets with unlimited medications, on-time reminders, dose logging and 60 days of history. Pro removes the pet limit and the ads, and a short ad can unlock an extra pet slot for a few days.

Offline

Reminders that live on the phone

Each dose reminder is a local notification scheduled on the device, so it does not depend on a server or a signal. The pet, medication and dose records are stored on the phone as well.

Vet-ready

History you can hand over

A running timeline of doses given and skipped, plus a vet-ready summary export (Pro) and a visit-prep screen that lists the record's key figures alongside general questions to ask.

Protection

Flea, tick and heartworm dates

Track monthly or longer preventives with a next-due date, a reminder and a one-tap Given, so the item due this week is easy to spot.

Supply

Doses left in the bottle

Enter how many doses remain and the app counts them down as you log, warning you with the date the supply will run out against the date the course ends.

Notes

What happened after a dose

Record a reaction in your own words, with quick chips such as spat it out or refused food and an optional photo that stays on the device. The app stores the note exactly as written and never interprets it.

Passport

Health passport per pet

Keep breed, birth date, microchip number, insurance policy, allergies and past reactions, and your clinic and out-of-hours numbers in one place, with a call button for each.

Household

Who gave each dose (Pro)

Add everyone who gives doses, say which one is using this phone, and each logged dose carries a name. The roster lives on one device and is not synced to another phone.

Fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't

A good fit if you

  • Have a dog or cat on a course of tablets, drops or supplements and cannot afford to miss a dose
  • Share care with a partner or family and keep wondering whether this morning's pill went in
  • Look after long-term medication such as heart, joint or allergy treatment, or monthly flea and tick prevention
  • Have a puppy or kitten with a deworming and booster schedule to follow
  • Want a dated history to hand your vet instead of trying to remember

Not the right tool if you

  • Want the app to advise on a dose, a diagnosis or a treatment, which it never does
  • Need a record that syncs live between two phones, since the data and the household roster stay on one device
  • Look after pets other than dogs and cats
  • Need more than two pets, the full history export or an ad-free app without Pro

Safety and limits

A reminder, not veterinary advice

Pet Medication & Pill Reminder is a reminder and record-keeping tool. It does not diagnose, prescribe or replace your veterinarian, and it never calculates or changes a dose. Type in exactly what your vet prescribed and always follow the label.

Contact your vet about any side effect, a missed-dose worry or a suspected double dose, and go to an emergency or out-of-hours clinic if your pet reacts badly. Do not wait for the app.

Notifications depend on your phone's settings and battery, so check that reminders are switched on, and do not rely on them alone for a medicine your pet must not miss.

Privacy

What leaves your phone

Your pets, medications and dose history are stored on your device, and reminders are scheduled locally, so the app works without a signal. Cloud backup is optional, with one backup a day on the free plan and free restores on any plan. The optional AI visit-prep questions ask for consent first and send medication names, a general schedule pattern, given, skipped and missed counts and your own notes, never your pet's name, the dosage, your email or your account ID.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the best pet pill reminder app for dogs and cats?

Look for one that keeps a separate schedule per pet, fires reminders without needing a signal and records what was actually given. Pet Medication & Pill Reminder does all three: each dog or cat has its own medication list, reminders are local notifications, and every dose is logged as Given or Skipped. It is free on iOS and Android for up to two pets.

How do I set up a medication schedule for my dog or cat?

Add the pet, then add the medicine with the dose written the way your vet gave it and the time it is due. In Pet Medication & Pill Reminder every medication has a daily reminder time with a start date and an optional end date for a short course; Pro adds several dose times a day and schedules on chosen weekdays. Medicines for the long term can be left ongoing.

What happens if I miss a dose or log one twice?

A dose that comes due and is never logged shows as missed, while one you choose not to give is recorded as skipped. Pet Medication & Pill Reminder can send one follow-up nudge if a dose stays unlogged, and it stops to ask if the same medicine is recorded as given twice within a short window. For any real double dose or missed-dose worry, call your vet.

Do the reminders work without internet?

Yes. Pet Medication & Pill Reminder schedules each dose alert as a local notification on the phone, so it does not need a server or a signal. Like any notification, it depends on your phone's settings and battery, so check that notifications are allowed for the app.

Can more than one person log the doses?

Yes, with a caveat. The Pro household roster in Pet Medication & Pill Reminder lets you add everyone who gives doses and labels each logged dose with who gave it. The roster and the records live on one device and are not synced to another phone, so two people sharing the logging should use the same phone.

Can it track flea, tick and heartworm prevention too?

Yes. Pet Medication & Pill Reminder has a Protection section for items that run on months rather than days, such as flea and tick treatment, heartworm preventive, worming or yearly boosters. You enter the product and the interval your vet set, and the app reminds you when the next one is due.

Is Pet Medication & Pill Reminder free?

The app is free to download. The free plan covers up to two pets with unlimited medications, on-time reminders, dose logging and 60 days of history, and it shows ads. Pro removes the pet limit and the ads, adds advanced scheduling, unlimited backups, the household roster and the vet-ready summary export.

Can I show the history to my vet?

Yes. The history in Pet Medication & Pill Reminder lists every dose given and skipped by day, an adherence calendar shows the month at a glance, and Pro exports a vet-ready summary you can share. A visit-prep screen also gathers the key figures and a list of general questions to ask.

Does the app work out how much medicine to give?

No. Pet Medication & Pill Reminder never calculates a dose from weight, species or age. You enter the dose exactly as your vet prescribed, and the app stores and shows it back unchanged. A pet's weight can be recorded for your vet, but it is not used for any calculation.

Is it on iPhone and Android, and why is the App Store name different?

Pet Medication & Pill Reminder is built for dogs and cats and runs on iOS (iOS 15.1 or later) through the App Store and on Android through Google Play, in 10 languages and rated 4+. Google Play lists it as "Pet Medication & Pill Reminder" and the App Store currently lists it as "Pill Reminder: Pet Meds"; it is the same app.
