Every network, server and command in the game is scripted fiction, so nothing asks you to remember syntax. The skill on test is the one a real investigator needs: reading a wall of raw output, spotting the one line that matters and deciding what is worth the risk.

What it is

Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler is a free hacker game for iOS and Android that plays like an interactive detective story. You guide a hacker called Ghost through a company network by solving cipher, lock, log and routing puzzles, with no coding at all. The first case, Cold Trail, follows Mara Venn's search for her missing sister across five episodes, and a hidden trace meter from 0 to 100 tracks how careful you are.

Highlights

What the game looks like in play

Operations screen of Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler showing the Cold Trail case with five episodes and a Resume episode 1 button

One case, five episodes

The Operations tab is the home screen. It names the active case, lists the five episodes in order and shows how many free episodes are left today, so you always know where the story picks up.

Puzzle screen where Ghost lists five open ports and asks which one carries the gate controller's name

Read it like a stranger would

In this scene Ghost has scanned a gate controller box and five ports answered, but he can only try one before the system notices. A hint under the puzzle points at the service banner, so the answer comes from reading rather than guessing.

Intel archive showing a recovered file titled Badge 4471 is still alive

Every answer buys one more truth

Solved puzzles turn into recovered files. The first Intel entry shows the story's central oddity: a badge that keeps swiping into the gate long after its owner disappeared.

Ghost operator profile with trust slider, episode and caught counters and three locked endings

Trust is part of the story

Ghost has an affinity meter running from calm to trusting, plus counters for episodes, intel, times caught and runs without hints. How you play changes the way he talks to you.

How it works

How an episode plays

An episode is built for one sitting and strings together short scenes, so a session ends on a reason to come back rather than in the middle of a menu.

  1. Take the briefing

Each episode opens from the Ops screen with the state of the case. Cold Trail lists its five episodes, from First Contact to Bay Seven, and shows your trace and how many free episodes remain today.

  2. Make the call

Ghost scans a box, describes what he sees and waits. You solve the puzzle in front of you, pick a route or choose what to say, and his terminal fills with the commands that follow. One wrong, greedy choice and the noise adds up.

  3. Watch the trace and the intel

A trace meter from 0 to 100 reacts to every decision. Each answer also recovers a file in the Intel archive, so the case builds up as evidence you can reread between sessions.

Background

What makes a hacker game without code, and how does a cipher puzzle actually work?

A hacker game does not have to teach programming. Games in this style borrow the look of a terminal, a network map and a log file, then turn the real thinking behind them into puzzles anyone can solve: pattern spotting, deduction and weighing risk. The ciphers are the clearest example, because the simplest historical ciphers need nothing but patience and a clue about who wrote the message.

Shift (Caesar-style) cipherthe classic first cipher

Every letter of a message is moved a fixed number of places along the alphabet, so a shift of three turns A into D. The message looks like gibberish, but once you test the shifts one by one, or notice a common short word, the whole text falls out at once.

Pattern and sequence puzzlesfind the rule, find the next code

A row of numbers or codes usually follows one rule: adding a constant, doubling, alternating two series. Finding the rule is the whole puzzle, and the answer is whatever the rule produces next. No arithmetic beyond school level is needed.

Reading a logan investigator's skill

A log is a long list of timestamped events, and the interesting line is almost always the one that does not fit: a login at the wrong hour, a door badge used when its owner is elsewhere. Scanning for the odd one out is the same skill an analyst uses on real activity records.

Social engineeringnot every door is a firewall

Many real intrusions start with a person rather than a program, such as a tired employee on a late call who is persuaded to help. Games dramatise this as a conversation puzzle, where choosing the right thing to say matters more than any tool.

What's inside

What is actually in the game

5

Episodes in the first case

Cold Trail runs across five episodes, each built for a single sitting. The whole case is free; one episode unlocks per day, with another available by watching an optional short video.

9

Puzzle types

Route the network, crack the lock, break the cipher, spot the pattern, search the log, match the wires, call the timing, talk your way in and piece it together. Each one is a different way of thinking, not a typing test.

0-100

The trace

One number watches every choice. Careful moves barely touch it, greedy ones push it up, and at 100 Ghost has to pull out and you return to your last safe point.

3

Endings

Ghost's trust, how hot the trace ran and how often he was caught decide whether you reach the clean, compromised or burned ending.

Intel

An evidence archive

Recovered files collect in an Intel tab. The first one reveals that the missing woman's badge still opens the yard gate close to 23:50 every night.

Hints

Ask Ghost for a hint

A hint button sits under every puzzle. Free players get one a day, and Pro removes the limit. A hint nudges you toward the clue instead of giving the answer.

Fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't

A good fit if you

  • Love hacker thrillers and detective stories but never wanted to learn syntax
  • Enjoy ciphers, logic puzzles and deducing the one odd line in a log
  • Prefer a story told in short episodes that fit a commute or a break
  • Want a puzzle game that rewards careful choices over fast reflexes
  • Like a mystery with consequences, where trust and risk change the ending

Not the right tool if you

  • Want to learn real hacking tools or programming, because everything in the game is scripted fiction
  • Need to play offline, since episodes and progress load over an internet connection
  • Want every episode at once without waiting, because free play unlocks one per day
  • Want several cases right now, as Cold Trail is currently the only one

Privacy

Fiction only, and no sign-up

Every network, server and command in Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler is scripted, and the game never scans or touches a real system. You start as a guest with no account, and an internet connection is used to load episodes and save progress.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler?

Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler is a free hacker game for iPhone and Android. You play the handler who guides a hacker named Ghost through a company network by solving puzzles, with no typing of commands or reading of real code. It plays like an interactive detective story built around a missing-person case.

Do I need to know how to code or hack to play this hacker game?

No. Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler never asks you to type a command or remember syntax. You solve a puzzle, choose a route or pick what to say, and Ghost turns that into action on his terminal. The skills involved are pattern spotting, deduction and weighing risk.

What kinds of puzzles are in Ghost Handler?

There are nine kinds in the first case. You route a live 3D network map, crack a short code using a clue about its owner, break a shifted-letter cipher, spot the rule in a number pattern, search a log for one line, match devices to ports, call the timing of a door, talk your way past a person and piece scattered fragments together.

What is the trace in Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler?

The trace is a number from 0 to 100 that rises when you make noisy or greedy choices, such as grabbing more than you need or forcing a door instead of finding the key. If it reaches 100, Ghost is burned and you return to your last safe point. It also feeds into which of the three endings you reach.

What is the first case about?

The first case, Cold Trail, follows Mara Venn, whose sister Iris stopped answering nine days after taking a night job at a logistics yard. The police say adults are allowed to disappear. Mara finds a hacker, Ghost, who can get into the company's network, and you decide what is worth the risk to find out the truth.

How many episodes are free, and is there a paywall?

All five episodes of Cold Trail are free, and no puzzle is locked behind a purchase. Free play unlocks one episode a day, with another available if you watch an optional short video. Pro, offered as monthly, yearly or lifetime, removes the daily limit and ads, and it unlocks unlimited hints.

Can the game harm a real computer or teach real hacking?

No. Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler is fiction only. Every network, server and command is scripted, and the game never scans, connects to or touches a real system. It borrows the look of a hacking story for its puzzles, so it is not a security training tool.

Which languages and devices does Hacker Puzzle: Ghost Handler support?

The game is available on iOS and on Android through Google Play, with the interface in 10 languages: English, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Chinese. On iPhone it needs iOS 15.1 or later, and the age rating is 4+.
