English Pronunciation AI is a free-to-start iPhone and Android app for English learners who want accent training out loud. Most learners know far more English than they can comfortably speak, because reading and listening give no feedback on the mouth. The loop that changes this is short and repetitive: read a line aloud, find out which words missed, say it again. The app is built around that loop instead of around lessons about it.

What it is

English Pronunciation AI is a free-to-start iOS and Android app for English accent training and speaking practice. You enter a topic, the app generates a practice text tailored to your level, you read it aloud while the phone listens, and an AI tutor scores the attempt out of 100, lists the words you pronounced well and the ones to improve, and gives written feedback. A word bank with games sits alongside the speaking practice.

Background

How do you improve your English pronunciation and accent?

Pronunciation improves through speaking aloud and getting specific feedback, not through reading about sounds. Clear English depends less on a perfect accent than on a few habits that listeners notice: stressing the right syllable, giving the vowels their full length, and not dropping word endings. A short daily read-aloud with a quick check of the result builds those habits faster than a long occasional session.

Word stressthe most noticed feature

English words carry one strong syllable, and putting the stress on the wrong one is what makes a familiar word hard to recognise. Photograph and photographer stress different syllables, so a long word is worth saying slowly once before you use it in a sentence.

Minimal pairssounds that change the word

Pairs such as ship and sheep, or live and leave, differ by a single sound. Learners whose first language does not separate those sounds often hear them as one, which is why reading each word aloud and checking that it was understood is more reliable than trusting your own ear.

Sentence rhythmwhy speed is not fluency

English gives content words, such as nouns and verbs, more weight and squeezes the small words around them. Speaking every word at the same pace sounds careful but flat; running a whole sentence in one breath, as a native speaker would, is a skill that comes from reading complete sentences aloud rather than single words.

Accent versus claritya realistic goal

Having an accent is normal and does not stop you being understood. The practical target is clarity: a listener who has never met you should catch each sentence the first time, in the accent you choose to aim for.

How it works

How a practice session works

A session is one short loop of choosing something to say, saying it, and reading the result. Free accounts get one pronunciation practice a day.

  1. Choose what you want to talk about

Type a topic such as travel, food or technology. The app writes a practice text for that topic, pitched at the level you set when you started, so the sentences are ones you might really say.

  2. Read it aloud and watch the words appear

Tap to record and read the text. A live transcription shows what the phone heard as you speak, so a word that appears wrong tells you straight away where the sound went astray.

  3. Get the score and the word-by-word notes

The AI compares your transcription with the original text and returns a score, the parts you pronounced well, the parts to improve and written feedback. Tap Try Again to repeat the same text, or pick a new topic.

What's inside

What comes with the app

AI

Pronunciation checker

Read a text aloud and receive a score out of 100, a list of words said well, a list to work on, and short written feedback in your own language.

Your topic

Practice text on demand

Instead of a fixed script, the app generates text about any topic you type, at your level, so practice stays relevant to what you actually want to say.

Live

Live transcription

See your words appear while you speak. It makes a missed sound visible at once, which is the quickest way to know what to repeat.

942

Word bank with levels

The Essential Words list holds 942 words at beginner level alone, filterable by list, level and word type, with a details page for each word and a Not Learned marker to track what you still need.

Games

Word games for the gaps

Word Search, Phrase Builder, Synonym Master, Antonym Master, Spelling Bee and Word Match turn vocabulary review into short rounds between speaking sessions.

Global

Global Challenge

A challenge you play against people from around the world, kept on the same Play tab as the games, for days when you want a goal other than a score.

Fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't

A good fit if you

  • Understand written English well but hesitate or get misunderstood when you speak
  • Want a quick daily read-aloud habit rather than a long lesson
  • Prefer practising on a topic that matters to you, such as work, travel or an exam
  • Want a private place to practise speaking before a real conversation
  • Like a little vocabulary play between speaking sessions

Not the right tool if you

  • Need a human teacher to correct mouth position and individual sounds
  • Expect it to measure your exact vowels or intonation: it checks what the phone heard against the text
  • Want unlimited daily pronunciation practice without upgrading, since free accounts get one a day
  • Need to practise somewhere with no connection, because the AI feedback is generated online

Privacy

What happens to your voice

The app asks for microphone access so the phone's speech recognition can turn what you say into text. To write your score and feedback, the practice text and that transcription are sent to an AI service; the service receives text, not an audio recording.

Full details are in the CoddyKit privacy policy.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to practise English pronunciation on a phone?

Read a short text aloud every day and check the result straight away, then repeat the words that missed. English Pronunciation AI is built around that loop: it writes a text on a topic you choose, listens while you read, and returns a score with the words to improve. A five-minute daily habit works better than one long weekly session.

How does English Pronunciation AI check my pronunciation?

The phone's speech recognition turns your voice into text, and an AI tutor compares that transcription with the text you were meant to read. It returns a score out of 100, the words said well, the words to work on and written feedback. It judges what was recognised, so it is a practical clarity check rather than a lab measurement of each sound.

Can an app really help with accent training?

Yes, for the habits that make speech clear: repeating a text until the same words come out right, and noticing which words keep failing. English Pronunciation AI supports accent training with repeatable read-aloud practice and instant feedback. It does not replace a teacher for fine details of mouth position, and it does not promise to remove an accent.

Is English Pronunciation AI free?

The app is free to download on iOS and Android and free accounts can complete one pronunciation practice a day. Pro removes that daily limit and unlocks the games marked Pro, such as Phrase Builder and Word Match. Prices are shown in the app before you decide anything.

What do I need to start speaking practice?

You need a phone, an internet connection and permission to use the microphone. Pick a topic, read the generated text aloud and wait for your score. A quiet room gives the speech recognition a cleaner transcription, which makes the feedback more useful.

Does the app work for beginners and advanced learners?

Yes. English Pronunciation AI sets the generated practice text to your level, so a beginner reads short everyday sentences and a more advanced learner gets longer, denser ones. The word bank is organised by level too, starting with A1 beginner words, so you can build vocabulary alongside speaking.

How many languages does the app support?

The app's interface is translated into many languages, and the feedback is written in your own language, so you can read the tips without translating them. The speaking practice itself is in English.

Can I use it to prepare for a conversation or an interview?

You can type the situation as your topic, for example a job interview or ordering in a restaurant, and read the text the app writes for it. Repeating that text until it sounds comfortable is a good rehearsal for the words and phrases you expect to use. It does not simulate a live conversation partner.

Does English Pronunciation AI store my voice recordings?

The app uses the phone's speech recognition to produce a transcription, and the AI feedback is generated from that text and the practice text, not from an audio file. You can read the details in the CoddyKit privacy policy before you decide to use it.

What platforms does it run on?

English Pronunciation AI runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15.1 or later, and on Android through Google Play. It is rated 4+ on the App Store.
