Meet the People
Behind every accessibility rule is a real person. Let us meet the users you build for and how each one reaches your page. 👋
Blind Users Listen
A blind user cannot see the screen at all, so a screen reader speaks the page aloud. They listen to your words, not your layout.
Order Is Everything
Because blind users hear content top to bottom, the order of your markup is the order they experience. Logical source order matters.
Low-Vision Users Zoom
A low-vision user sees, but needs help. They zoom in, enlarge text, or use high contrast to read what you wrote.
Layouts Must Reflow
When a low-vision user zooms to 200 percent, your layout should reflow into one column instead of forcing sideways scrolling.
Deaf Users Read
A deaf or hard-of-hearing user misses audio, so video needs captions and a transcript. Sound alone never carries the message.
Motor Users Skip the Mouse
A motor disability can make a mouse hard or impossible. These users rely on the keyboard, voice, or a switch to act.
Big Targets Help Motor Users
Shaky hands or tremors make tiny buttons frustrating. Generous, well-spaced targets make clicks reliable for motor users.
Cognitive Users Need Clarity
A cognitive difference affects memory, focus, or reading. Clear language and simple, predictable flows reduce the mental load.
Predictability Calms
Cognitive users thrive on predictable patterns. Things that move, surprise, or hide their state make a page harder to trust.
Many Users Overlap
People are not one label. One user may have multiple needs at once, so good design serves several groups together.
Quick Check
Match the user to what they rely on.
Recap: Real People, Real Paths
Blind users listen, low-vision users zoom, deaf users read, motor users skip the mouse, and cognitive users need clarity. Design for all. 🌍
