The app never shows an invented market estimate or an AI guess at what a piece is worth. The total is a plain sum of what you paid, which makes it an honest inventory, and the question of what a coin or stamp would fetch stays with you and the dealers you trust.

What it is

Stamp & Coin Collection is a free-to-start Android catalog and tracker for coin and stamp collectors. You log each item with country, year, denomination, mint mark, condition, quantity, value paid and currency, add photos, group items into collections and keep a prioritised wishlist. The app includes an 8-level grading guide and statistics by country and condition. It records what you paid rather than estimating a market value, and the free plan holds up to 50 items.

Background

What should you record for each coin or stamp, and what do mint marks and perforations tell you?

A useful collection record answers three questions: what the piece is, what condition it is in and what you paid for it. Details such as a mint mark on a coin or the perforation on a stamp separate otherwise identical-looking pieces, which is why collectors catalogue them. Recording these once, with a photo, saves repeating the work when you sort, trade, insure or sell.

Mint markswhere a coin was struck

A mint mark is a small letter on a coin showing which mint produced it, for example D for Denver or S for San Francisco on many United States coins. The same year and denomination can differ in scarcity depending on the mark, so it belongs in the record.

Grading scalesPoor through Mint

Condition is described on a ladder from heavily worn to like-new, and the app's guide runs eight levels from Poor to Mint with plain descriptions. A reference scale helps you stay consistent, but it is not a substitute for a professional grading service.

Perforation, watermark and catalogue numberthe stamp fields

Perforation counts the holes along a stamp's edge, a watermark is a pattern in the paper visible against light, and a catalogue number points to a standard listing. Together they identify varieties that look the same at a glance.

Cost basiswhat you paid

Recording the price you paid, with the currency, gives a total that stays true over time. Market values move with demand and condition, and a record of purchase prices avoids pretending otherwise.

How it works

How cataloguing works

The aim is to get a shoebox or a spreadsheet into one searchable list without turning it into a second job.

  1. Add each piece

Tap Add Coin or Add Stamp, fill in country, year, denomination, mint marks, condition, quantity and value paid, and attach a photo from the camera or library. Suggestions come from a built-in list of about 25 major currency programs.

  2. Log a whole batch

After a coin show or an estate sale, Show Haul mode lets you save one item after another without leaving the form, so a big batch goes in quickly.

  3. Organise and review

Group items into collections or sets, search by name, country or year, filter by coins, stamps or a set, and check the statistics and insight cards for gaps.

What comes with the app

2 in 1

Coins and stamps together

Many collectors keep both, so they share one catalog, one search and one set of collections, with separate totals for each type.

8

Grading guide

Eight condition levels from Poor through Mint with plain descriptions, offered as a reference and not as a professional grade.

Paid

Value paid, not guessed

A running total and a value chart built from the prices you entered. The free plan shows the last 14 days of the value trend and Pro shows 90.

Want

Wishlist with priorities

Keep the pieces you are still hunting with low, medium or high priority.

Cards

Local insight cards

Offline cards point out gaps in a set, items not yet organised and missing photos or condition details. Pro adds a short AI-written note on patterns and gaps, never a price.

CSV

Export you own

Pro exports everything to a CSV file so the catalog is never locked in the app.

Fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't

A good fit if you

  • Collect coins, stamps or both and have outgrown a shoebox or a spreadsheet
  • Work through a series, such as Lincoln cents mint mark by mint mark
  • Inherited a box of old pieces and want to list them before sorting
  • Want a record of what you paid rather than a guessed market value
  • Bring home world coins from travel and want them catalogued by country

Not the right tool if you

  • Want to know what your pieces are worth, since the app does not value anything
  • Want a professional grade or authentication, as the guide is only a reference
  • Need an iPhone app, because it is currently on Google Play for Android
  • Have more than 50 pieces and want them free, since Pro removes the cap

Privacy

What stays on your device

Your items, photos, notes and prices are stored on your device, and no account is needed. If you use the Pro AI note, only structural details such as coin or stamp, country, year, denomination, condition and collection are sent to the app's server and its AI provider, never names, notes, prices or photos.

Full details are in the CoddyKit privacy policy.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app for cataloguing a stamp collection?

Choose one that records the fields collectors care about and does not invent values. Stamp & Coin Collection logs country, year, denomination, condition, quantity and value paid, lets you attach photos and group items into sets, and keeps stamps and coins in one catalog.

Does the app tell me what my coins and stamps are worth?

No, deliberately. Every value in Stamp & Coin Collection is a number you typed in, and the total is a plain sum of what you paid. The app never shows an AI guess or an invented market estimate, so check a dealer or a price guide for current values.

What details can I record for a coin?

Country, year, denomination, mint marks, condition, quantity, value paid and currency, a photo and a note, plus where and when you acquired it. Suggestions for country and denomination come from a built-in list of about 25 major currency programs, and anything else you type in.

Can I use it for both coins and stamps?

Yes. Coins and stamps sit side by side in one catalog with separate totals for each type, and you can filter by coins, stamps or a collection. Many collectors keep both, so there is no second app to manage.

What is the grading guide?

It is an eight-level scale from Poor through Mint with plain descriptions of each level. It is a reference to keep your own records consistent, not a professional grading service, so it will not replace an expert's opinion.

What is Show Haul mode?

Show Haul mode is for logging a whole batch from a coin show or an estate sale. You save one item after another without leaving the form, which is faster than opening the add screen for each piece.

Is Stamp & Coin Collection free?

It is free to download and you can catalog up to 50 coins and stamps with photos, collections, a wishlist, search, statistics, insight cards and a 14-day value trend. Pro removes the cap and adds CSV export, an AI-written read on your patterns and gaps, and the full 90-day value history.

Do I need an account, and where is my data?

No account is needed. Your items, photos, notes and prices are stored on your device, so back up your phone if the collection matters to you.

What does the AI insight actually say?

It is a short note on patterns and gaps in your own data, such as which set is the most complete or which country has a single item. It is part of Pro, it never gives a price or a valuation, and it only sees structural details of your items.

Is there an iPhone version, and which languages are supported?

At the moment the app is on Google Play for Android. It is available in 10 languages with light and dark themes.
