Cigar Humidor: Aging Log — A humidity and aging record for the cigars you already own

Cigar Humidor is a free, private humidity log and aging tracker for the sticks, boxes and cases a collector already owns. Record a hygrometer reading, watch an aging clock count down to a box's rest window, and write a tasting note once you've had it — a record-keeping tool for adults of legal smoking age, not a shop.

Which box is actually ready is a question a memory cannot answer.

A humidor holds sticks resting on different clocks, at humidity that drifts without a reading to catch it. The question 'which box is ready' only has a reliable answer once rest dates and RH readings are written down instead of estimated from when a box was bought.

What it is

Cigar Humidor: Aging Log is a free Android and iPhone app for tracking a cigar collection's storage conditions and aging progress. You log each cigar's vitola, wrapper and strength, record humidity and temperature readings from your own hygrometer per humidor, and set a rest start date so every stick shows as fresh, resting or ready. A journal holds tasting notes and ratings once a cigar is smoked. It is a record-keeping tool only — it does not sell cigars, link to a retailer, or suggest when or how much to smoke.

Background

What actually needs tracking in a cigar collection?

Keeping cigars well comes down to two things that drift quietly if nobody is watching them: the humidity and temperature inside each humidor, and how long each box has had to rest since it arrived or was last worked on. Neither shows up by glancing at the box — both need a reading or a date written down to mean anything months later.

Relative humidity targetcommonly cited around 65–70% RH

Cigars are commonly stored in a target relative humidity range, often cited around 65 to 70%, to keep the wrapper and filler from drying out or over-absorbing moisture. The right number for a given collection can vary with the cigars and the keeper's own preference, which is why a logged target per humidor, checked against real readings, matters more than a single rule everyone follows.

Resting a boxweeks to months, depending on the stick

A newly received or recently rolled cigar is often rested for a period before smoking, so it settles after transport or production. How long that takes varies by cigar and by collector preference, and the only way to know a box crossed its own rest window is to have set a start date for it in the first place.

Humidification pack healththe usual failure point

Two-way humidification packs and other devices keep a humidor's air at target RH, but they lose capacity over time and need replacing. A reading that is drifting out of range over several checks, rather than a single odd number, is usually the sign that the device — not the humidor itself — is spent.

Vitola and wrapperthe size and leaf, not the brand

Vitola describes a cigar's shape and size (ring gauge and length); wrapper describes the outer leaf, which strongly shapes flavor and strength independent of the blend inside. Recording both per stick is what makes a tasting note useful later — 'liked it' means little without knowing which size and wrapper earned it.

How it works

How the app is used

Set up a humidor once with its target humidity and temperature, then the habit is a quick check and a reading whenever you open the lid, plus a journal entry once a stick is actually smoked.

  1. Add the collection

Log each cigar with its vitola, wrapper and strength, with ring gauge and length filled in from a built-in vitola reference, plus quantity and what you paid. Set a rest start date and the stick's aging clock begins.

  2. Log humidity readings

Record RH and temperature from your own hygrometer against each humidor's target whenever you check it. Readings are marked low, in range or high, and after three checks the humidor gets a health grade with a plain fix if it is running dry, too wet, or its humidification pack is spent.

  3. Journal what you smoke

Write a tasting note with star rating, pairing, place and duration once a stick is smoked, and remove it from inventory. A palate card builds from rated entries, showing which wrapper, strength and size you actually rate highest.

Set a rest start date and every cigar shows fresh, resting or ready, with an "N ready · M resting" count on the Humidor tab and a cellar view grouped from fresh to vintage.

AI

Tasting-note drafts

Generate an editable tasting-note draft, pairing suggestion or aging summary grounded in a cigar's own attributes — never saved automatically, always yours to edit. 3 free a month, more on Pro.

Palate

Palate card

Once a few cigars are rated, see which wrapper, strength and size you rate highest, built only from your own journal entries.

Export the full inventory and journal as a CSV file, free or Pro, so the collection's record is never locked inside the app.

Fit

Who it's for — and who it isn't

A good fit if you

  • Keep more than one humidor or travel case and lose track of which is holding its humidity
  • Want to know which box has actually crossed its rest window instead of guessing from memory
  • Keep tasting notes on paper or not at all and want them tied to the exact stick
  • Are an adult of legal smoking age who wants a private, on-device collection record

Not the right tool if you

  • Are looking for a place to buy cigars or compare retailer prices — this app sells nothing
  • Want the app to tell you when or how much to smoke — it only logs storage conditions and your own notes
  • Have a collection under 25 sticks and don't expect to need Pro's unlimited inventory
  • Want a shared humidor log for a shop or lounge rather than a personal collection

Safety and limits

What this app is, and isn't

Cigar Humidor is a record-keeping tool for adults of legal smoking age. It is not a shop: nothing in it sells or links to tobacco, and it does not suggest when or how much to smoke. An age confirmation appears at first launch.

The app only tracks storage conditions you record from your own hygrometer and the notes you choose to write. It makes no health claims about smoking and does not promote or encourage tobacco use to anyone, of any age.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What's a good app for tracking a cigar collection?

The useful test is whether it ties three things together: inventory, humidity readings and an aging clock, because a collection is really a set of boxes drifting through all three at once. Cigar Humidor: Aging Log does that — vitola and wrapper per stick, RH and temperature logged per humidor against a target, and a rest-start date that shows fresh, resting or ready on every box. Free on Android, coming to iPhone.

What humidity should a humidor be kept at?

Collectors commonly cite a target relative humidity around 65 to 70%, though the right figure for a given collection can vary with the cigars stored and personal preference. What matters more than hitting one exact number is catching drift: a reading that creeps low, high, or stays out of range across several checks is the sign to act on, which is why Cigar Humidor logs each reading against the target you set for that humidor rather than against a single universal rule.

How do I know when a humidification pack needs replacing?

The usual tell is a trend, not one odd reading: if RH keeps drifting low or high across several checks despite the humidor itself being sealed properly, the humidification device has likely lost capacity. Cigar Humidor grades each humidor's health after three logged readings and gives a plain fix — running dry, too wet, or pack spent — built from your own reading history rather than a guess.

How long should a cigar rest before smoking it?

There's no single number — it depends on the cigar and on collector preference, and newly received or recently produced sticks are commonly given a rest period to settle after transport. The practical fix is recording a rest start date per box so the app can show fresh, resting or ready against that specific date, rather than relying on memory of when a box arrived.

What does vitola mean, and why does it matter for a log?

Vitola is a cigar's shape and size — its ring gauge and length — distinct from its wrapper or blend. Recording it alongside wrapper and strength is what makes a later tasting note actually useful: a rating attached only to a brand name tells you less than one attached to the exact size and wrapper that earned it, which is how Cigar Humidor's palate card works out which combinations you actually rate highest.

Does Cigar Humidor sell cigars or link to a shop?

No. It is a record-keeping tool only: it does not sell cigars, does not link anywhere to buy them, and does not suggest when or how much to smoke. The app only tracks the storage conditions you record from your own hygrometer and the notes you choose to write about sticks you already own. An age confirmation appears at first launch.

Is Cigar Humidor free to use?

Yes. The free tier tracks up to 25 sticks in one humidor with unlimited readings, an unlimited journal with ratings and pairings, the aging clock, health grades, cellar-by-age view, weekly recap and CSV export, plus 3 AI drafts a month. Pro adds unlimited sticks and humidors, collection stats, a humidity timeline per humidor, a cost-per-smoke ledger, and a larger AI draft allowance.

Is my inventory and journal data private?

Yes. Inventory, readings, journal entries and band photos are stored on your device, and the core log works offline with no account required. AI drafts send only cigar attributes — brand, line, size, wrapper, strength — never your notes, photos or prices. Signing in is optional and only protects a subscription across devices.

What do the AI tasting-note drafts actually generate?

On request, the app can draft a tasting note, a pairing suggestion, or an aging summary for a specific stick, grounded in that cigar's own recorded attributes rather than a generic description. The draft is always editable and is never saved automatically — you decide whether to keep, change or discard it before it joins the journal. Free accounts get 3 drafts a month; Pro raises that allowance substantially.
