A blind user cannot see the screen at all, so a screen reader speaks the page aloud. They listen to your words, not your layout.

Because blind users hear content top to bottom, the order of your markup is the order they experience. Logical source order matters.

A low-vision user sees, but needs help. They zoom in, enlarge text, or use high contrast to read what you wrote.

When a low-vision user zooms to 200 percent, your layout should reflow into one column instead of forcing sideways scrolling.

A deaf or hard-of-hearing user misses audio, so video needs captions and a transcript. Sound alone never carries the message.

A motor disability can make a mouse hard or impossible. These users rely on the keyboard, voice, or a switch to act.

Shaky hands or tremors make tiny buttons frustrating. Generous, well-spaced targets make clicks reliable for motor users.

A cognitive difference affects memory, focus, or reading. Clear language and simple, predictable flows reduce the mental load.

Cognitive users thrive on predictable patterns. Things that move, surprise, or hide their state make a page harder to trust.

People are not one label. One user may have multiple needs at once, so good design serves several groups together.

Match the user to what they rely on.
