Design for the Decision

A stakeholder chart is not for you, it is for action. Start by asking what decision this view should unlock. 🎯

One Chart, One Message

Pack a single clear takeaway into each chart. If a viewer needs to study it, the message is buried too deep.

Say It in the Title

Make the title the conclusion, not the topic. "Churn doubled in Q3" beats "Churn over time" because it states the finding.

Pick the Right Type

Match chart to intent: lines for trends, bars for comparisons, scatter for relationships. The wrong type fights your message.

Lead the Eye With Color

Use a muted palette and reserve one bold color to highlight the bar or point that proves your argument.

Cut the Clutter

Drop gridlines, heavy borders, and decimal noise. Every removed element makes the real signal stand out more clearly.

Label Directly

Start bar charts at zero. A truncated axis exaggerates differences and quietly destroys your credibility with a sharp audience.

Add Context Numbers

A short text note pointing at the key moment guides interpretation, so nobody walks away with the wrong conclusion.
