From Debug to Release
To submit your app, you build a special release version. It is optimized and stripped of the debug helpers you use while coding. 🚀
What an Archive Is
An archive is a packaged, signed copy of your release build. It is the exact artifact you upload to App Store Connect.
Pick the Right Destination
Before archiving, set the run destination to Any iOS Device. You cannot create a real archive while a simulator is selected.
Bump the Build Number
Each upload needs a higher build number. Increment it in your target settings so App Store Connect accepts the new binary.
Create the Archive
Choose Product then Archive from the menu. Xcode compiles, signs, and collects everything into one archive package.
The Organizer Window
When archiving finishes, the Organizer opens and lists your archive. This is your launch pad for validation and upload.
Validate First
Click Validate App to let Apple check the archive for common problems before you upload, catching issues early.
Distribute the App
Choose Distribute App, then App Store Connect, to send the archive straight to Apple servers for processing.
Processing on Apple
After upload, Apple processes the build for a few minutes. The build appears in App Store Connect once it is ready.
App Store Connect
App Store Connect is Apple web dashboard where your uploaded builds live, ready to attach to a version or a TestFlight group.
Export Compliance
On the first upload Apple asks about encryption. Answering this export compliance question lets your build finish processing.
