Reach It From Anywhere

Your Gateway runs locally, but you do not have to be home to use it. Remote access lets you reach it from anywhere. 🌍

Still Self-Hosted

Remote access does not move your assistant to the cloud. It stays self-hosted on your hardware; you just open a safe path to it.

Two Recommended Paths

OpenClaw documents two ways to connect remotely: SSH and Tailscale. Both keep the link private instead of exposing it openly.

What SSH Gives You

SSH gives you an encrypted shell into the machine running your Gateway, so you can manage it securely from a remote computer.

A Familiar Tool

SSH is a standard, well-tested tool many developers already use, which makes it a dependable choice for reaching your Gateway.

ssh user@your-gateway-host

What Tailscale Gives You

Tailscale builds a private network between your devices, so your Gateway feels local even when you are far away.

Private Network Feel

With Tailscale, devices connect as if on the same LAN. You skip exposing ports to the public internet entirely.

Avoid Public Exposure

Both options matter because you should not put a Gateway with full system access on the open internet. Keep the path private.

Pair With Guardrails

Remote access does not replace your other controls. Keep allowlists and required mentions in place even on a private link.

Mobile Nodes Too

You can also pair iOS and Android nodes with the Gateway, unlocking Canvas, camera, and voice workflows from your phone.

Find The Guide

The full setup for remote access lives in the /gateway/remote docs. Follow them to connect SSH or Tailscale correctly. 📡

Let us confirm the safe ways to reach your Gateway remotely.

Recap

Reach your self-hosted Gateway remotely with SSH or Tailscale, keep guardrails on, and follow the /gateway/remote docs. ✅
