You do not hand-build a KMP project. A wizard generates a working shared, Android, and iOS setup in minutes. ✨

You can start from the web wizard at the official KMP site, or from New Project inside Android Studio. Both produce the same template.

The wizard asks for a project name and an application id. The id is your unique reverse-domain identifier, like com.example.myapp.

You tick the platforms to include. For your first app, Android and iOS is the classic, focused pair to start with.

The wizard offers a choice: Compose Multiplatform for shared UI, or native UI on each side. Start native to learn the boundaries clearly.

Click generate. The wizard hands you a ready project, either downloaded as a zip or opened directly in Studio.

Open the generated folder in Android Studio. It detects Gradle and begins importing the project structure automatically.

The first Gradle sync downloads dependencies and can take a while. Let it finish before you touch any files.

The template gives you a shared module, an Android app, and an iOS app, all already linked together and ready to run.

Pick the Android run configuration, choose your emulator, and hit run. Seeing the sample app prove the wiring works is a great confidence boost.
