Memory Bugs Are Sneaky

Memory bugs often hide until they crash a program at the worst moment. Mojo is built to catch many of them early. 🛡️

Use After Free

A classic bug is use-after-free: touching memory you already released. The data may be gone or reused, giving wrong results or a crash.

Ownership Stops It

Mojo's ownership rules track who holds each value, so the compiler can flag code that would use a value after it is freed.

Double Free

Freeing the same memory twice is a double free. Because each value has one clear owner, Mojo prevents this from happening by design.

Memory Leaks

A leak is memory you allocate but never free. Mojo's automatic cleanup at the end of a value's scope makes leaks far less likely.

Dangling References

A dangling reference points at memory that has already been destroyed. Mojo's lifetime tracking helps keep references valid.

Value Semantics Help

Mojo's default value semantics give each variable its own copy, so changing one never silently corrupts another's data.

Bounds Awareness

Reading past the end of a buffer is a common crash. Safe collection types check the bounds so you stay inside valid memory.

Prefer Standard Types

The simplest defense is to use types like List that manage memory for you, rather than juggling raw pointers by hand.

var safe = List[Int](10, 20, 30)

Caught at Compile Time

Many memory mistakes in Mojo surface as compile errors, not mysterious runtime crashes, so you fix them before they ever ship.

Safety With Speed

Mojo aims to give you C-level speed while these guardrails protect your memory, a rare and powerful combination.

Recap

Ownership, lifetimes, and value semantics let Mojo catch use-after-free, double frees, and leaks early. Safe types keep memory solid. 🎯
