A Messaging Style Built for Tiny Devices
MQTT is a lightweight messaging protocol made for small, low-power devices on shaky networks. It is the everyday language of IoT. 📡
Publish and Subscribe
Instead of devices calling each other directly, MQTT uses a publish/subscribe model. A device sends a message, and anyone interested receives it.
The Broker in the Middle
Every message flows through a central broker. Devices never talk to each other directly, so they stay loosely coupled and simple.
Topics Sort the Traffic
Each message is tagged with a topic, a path-like name such as home/livingroom/temp. Subscribers pick the topics they care about.

A publisher just sends to a topic and moves on. It never knows or cares who is listening, which keeps your code clean.
Subscribers Just Listen

MQTT headers are famously small, sometimes just a couple of bytes. That low overhead saves battery, bandwidth, and money.
Made for Unreliable Networks
IoT links drop often. MQTT expects this and offers QoS levels that control how hard it tries to deliver each message.
Last Will Tells You Goodbye
A device can register a Last Will message. If it vanishes unexpectedly, the broker announces that for it automatically.
Retained Messages Remember State
Mark a message as retained and the broker keeps the latest one. New subscribers instantly learn the current value on connect.
Why HTTP Often Loses Here
HTTP reopens a heavy connection for every request. MQTT keeps one light persistent link open, perfect for constant little updates.
