What a Breadboard Is
A breadboard lets you build circuits by pushing parts into holes, no soldering. You can rewire it anytime, which makes it perfect for learning. 🔌
Holes Are Connected Inside
The magic is hidden: groups of holes are wired together inside the board. Knowing which holes share a connection is the whole skill.
The Power Rails
The long lines down each side are the power rails, usually marked + (red) and - (blue). Every hole in one rail is connected together.
Rails Run the Long Way
A power rail connects along its whole length. So a wire in the top + hole reaches a part plugged into the bottom + hole. ⚡
The Terminal Rows
The main grid in the middle holds your parts. Here the holes connect in short rows, not down the long sides.
Five Holes per Row
In the middle grid, each row of five holes is linked together. Plug two legs into the same row and they are electrically joined.
The Center Gap Splits It
A trench runs down the middle. It splits each row in two, so the left five and right five holes are separate.
Why the Gap Exists
The gap is sized for chips. A DIP chip straddles it so each leg lands in its own row, with no legs shorted together.
Making Two Parts Connect
To join two parts, put a leg from each into the same row. To keep them apart, use different rows.
Jumper Wires Bridge Rows
Rows that should connect but sit far apart get linked by a jumper wire. It is just a movable connection between two holes.
Feed the Rails First
A common habit: run a wire from Arduino 5V to the + rail and GND to the - rail. Now power is everywhere along the board. 🔋
Quick Check
Think about how the middle grid is wired.
Recap
You learned a breadboard's hidden wiring: rails run long for power, middle rows link five holes, and the gap keeps the two sides apart. 🎉
