From Data to Insight

Your node is publishing numbers, but numbers alone are noise. Now you build a dashboard that turns them into charts and alerts. 📊

What the Cloud Receives

The broker holds your latest messages on each topic. The dashboard simply subscribes to those topics and reacts whenever a new value lands.

Pick a Platform

You don't have to build everything yourself. A cloud platform like ThingSpeak or a Node-RED flow can ingest MQTT and chart it for you.

Subscribe to Your Topics

Point the dashboard at the same topics your node uses, such as home/livingroom/temp, so every reading flows straight into a widget.

client.subscribe("home/livingroom/temp");

Add a Live Chart

Drop a line chart bound to the temperature topic. As messages arrive, the curve grows, giving you a history you can scroll through.

Show the Current Value

Beside the chart, add a big gauge or number tile for the latest reading. One glance tells you the room's state right now.

Define an Alert Rule

An alert is just a threshold. Decide what counts as too hot, like temperature above 30, and the platform watches for it.

if (temp > 30.0) {
  triggerAlert();
}

Choose How to Notify

When the rule fires, pick a notification channel: an email, a push message, or a webhook to another service.

Avoid Alert Spam

Hold off on repeats with a cooldown. Alert once, then stay quiet for a while, so one warm afternoon doesn't flood your phone.

Add a Control Widget

Dashboards can talk back. A toggle button publishes to a command topic, letting you flip a relay from anywhere in the world.

// button press publishes:
// home/livingroom/relay -> "ON"

Verify End to End

Breathe on the sensor and watch the chart climb. Seeing your physical action move a cloud graph proves the whole pipeline works. ✅

Quick Check

Check your dashboard knowledge.

Recap

You subscribed to topics, charted live data, set a threshold alert with a cooldown, and added remote control. Your dashboard is ready. 🌐
