Let's read some code
Don't worry, you won't memorize anything. We'll just look at code together and get comfy.
Printing text
The word print tells Python to show something on the screen. It's that direct.
Try it 🎯
Run this. Python will print your message exactly as written between the quotes.
print("I am learning Python!")Quotes make text
Text inside quotes is called a string. The quotes tell Python: this is words, not math.
Python can do math
Python is also a calculator. Type a sum and it works it out for you.
print(2 + 3)Storing things 📦
A variable is a labeled box that holds a value, so you can use it again later.
A name and a value
Here we put a name in a box called name, then print it. Read it slowly, it makes sense!
name = "Sam"
print(name)You can read code!
See? You just understood real Python. It's logical, one small step at a time.
Mistakes are normal
Everyone makes typos. Errors aren't failure, they're just hints. Tweak and run again.
You're a coder now! 🎉
You read and ran real code. That's a huge first step. The fun is only just beginning.
