Computers Are Listeners
Hello again, coder! 👋 Today we learn a big secret about computers.
Computers do exactly what you tell them. No more, no less!
Exactly What You Say
If you tell the computer to say "Hello", it says Hello.
It will not say "Hi" or "Hey". It does exactly what you ask! 🤖
See It in Action
Run this code. The computer will say exactly what is inside the quotes.
console.log("I do exactly what you say!")Computers Do Not Guess
A computer never guesses what you mean. 🙅
If you forget a step, the computer will not add it for you. You must be clear!
The Robot Sandwich
Imagine a robot making a sandwich. 🥪 If you say "put on jam" but forget "open the jar", the robot just stares at the closed jar!
Computers need every step.
Try the Robot
This robot follows your exact words. Run it!
console.log("Pick up the bread")
console.log("Spread the jam")
console.log("Yummy sandwich done!")Order Matters a Lot
Computers do steps in the exact order you write them. ⬇️
First line first, then the next, then the next.
Wrong Order Is Funny
If you tell the computer to eat the sandwich before making it, it will try anyway! 😂
That is why order is so important.
See the Order
Run this and notice the lines come out top to bottom, in order.
console.log("1: Wake up")
console.log("2: Brush teeth")
console.log("3: Eat breakfast")Be Clear and Kind
The trick to good coding is being clear. 🎯
Tell the computer each tiny step, and it will do a great job!
You Are in Control
Because computers do exactly what you say, you are always in control! 👑
That makes you very powerful as a coder.
