The Role, Task, Format Framework
A reliable three-part recipe for stronger prompts.
A Recipe for Better Prompts
If your AI answers feel hit-or-miss, the problem is usually the prompt, not the AI. A simple recipe fixes most of it: Role, Task, Format. You tell the AI who to be, what to do, and how to deliver it. Think of it like ordering coffee: who is making it, what drink you want, and the cup size. Three small choices, a much better result. Over the next scenes you will turn this into a habit you can use every single day.
The R — Role
The Role is the hat you ask the AI to wear. Saying act as a friendly career coach or act as a careful editor instantly shifts its tone, vocabulary, and priorities. Without a role, the AI guesses and gives you a bland, average answer. With one, it leans into the right expertise. Pick a role that matches the help you actually want: a teacher explains, an editor polishes, a planner organizes. One short phrase steers the whole reply.
