AWS Service Universe Overview
AWS has 200+ services, but the exam centers on a core few, grouped by category: compute, storage, database, networking, and security. Categories help you find answers fast.
Compute Services
Compute is the processing power for your apps. EC2 gives you full virtual machines, Lambda runs code without servers, and ECS and EKS run containers.
Storage Services
AWS storage comes in three flavors: object (S3) for files at huge scale, block (EBS) for disks on EC2, and file (EFS) for shared file systems.
Database Services
AWS offers a purpose-built database for every need: RDS and Aurora for SQL, DynamoDB for key-value at scale, ElastiCache for caching, and Redshift for analytics.
Networking and Content Delivery
Networking controls how traffic flows. VPC builds private networks, ELB spreads load, Route 53 handles DNS, and CloudFront caches content at the edge.
Security Services
Security services guard your data: IAM controls access, KMS manages encryption keys, WAF filters web attacks, and GuardDuty spots threats automatically.
Management and Monitoring
Management services keep things healthy: CloudWatch tracks metrics and logs, CloudTrail records every API call, and Config checks resources against your rules.
Application Integration Services
Integration services loosen the ties between app parts: SQS queues messages, SNS broadcasts notifications, and EventBridge routes events to wherever they need to go.
Analytics Services
Analytics services turn data into insight: Kinesis streams it live, Glue transforms it, Athena queries S3 directly with SQL, and QuickSight builds dashboards.
Migration and Transfer Services
Migration services move workloads into AWS: MGN replicates servers, DMS migrates databases with little downtime, and Snowball ships data on physical appliances.
Developer and DevOps Tools
AWS has a full DevOps toolchain — CodeCommit, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline for CI/CD, plus CloudFormation for infrastructure as code. The code shows a stack query.
