Following a Message
Let us trace one message end to end, from your chat app to OpenClaw and back. Seeing the flow makes it all click. 🔁
Step One: You Send
It starts when you type in a channel, a connected chat app like WhatsApp or Telegram, and hit send.
Step Two: The Bridge
That channel is bridged into the Gateway. Your message crosses the bridge from the chat app into OpenClaw.
Step Three: The Gateway
The message lands at the Gateway, the central hub that knows about every session, route, and channel.
Step Four: Routing
The Gateway does its job of routing, deciding which agent and which session this particular message belongs to.
Per-Sender Sessions
Routing uses your session. Each sender has their own isolated session, so your context never mixes with someone else's.
Step Five: The Agent
The Gateway hands the message to the agent runtime, the part that actually thinks and decides how to respond.
Memory and Skills Help
The agent draws on persistent memory and any skills it has, so its reply fits the ongoing conversation.
Step Six: The Reply Returns
The agent's answer flows back through the Gateway, which sends it out over the same channel you used.
Step Seven: You Receive
The reply arrives right in your chat app. To you it feels like texting a friend, with the Gateway quietly in the middle.
