Apple requires every app to be code signed. Signing proves the app came from you and has not been tampered with since. 🔐

Signing relies on an Apple Developer account. It links your apps, certificates, and identifiers to one verified identity.

A certificate is a private key Apple trusts. Your Mac uses it to stamp builds so devices and the App Store accept them.

Each app has a unique bundle identifier, like com.yourname.app. It is your app permanent name across Apple systems.

A provisioning profile ties your certificate, bundle ID, and allowed devices together so a build can install and run.

Turn on Automatically manage signing in the Signing and Capabilities tab, and Xcode creates the certificates and profiles for you.

Pick your Team from the dropdown. Xcode then matches the right account and keeps signing settings in sync.

A capability unlocks a system feature like push notifications or iCloud. You add it instead of editing config files by hand.

Click plus Capability, then pick a feature. Xcode updates your entitlements and provisioning so the feature works at runtime.

Behind the scenes, capabilities write into an entitlements file that grants your app permission to use protected features.

Never change your bundle identifier once you ship. Apple treats a new ID as a brand new app, losing your existing users.
