First Impressions
Before you ship, your app needs polished visuals. The app icon is the very first thing users see on the Home Screen. 🎨
The Asset Catalog
All your images live in the Assets.xcassets catalog. Xcode bundles them and picks the right resolution for each device automatically.
The AppIcon Set
Open the AppIcon entry in your asset catalog. This is the dedicated slot where Xcode expects your app icon artwork.
A Single Source Icon
Modern Xcode accepts one 1024x1024 PNG and generates every smaller size for you, so you no longer hand-make dozens of icons.
Icon Design Rules
Keep the icon simple and avoid transparency or text. iOS rounds the corners for you, so design on a full square canvas.
The Launch Screen
The launch screen shows for a split second while your app loads. It should look like your first real screen, not a splash ad.
Setting It Up
Configure the launch screen in your target settings or a simple storyboard. Keep it static, since it cannot run any of your code.
Accent Color
Set an accent color in the asset catalog to tint buttons and controls across your app with one consistent brand color.
Image Sets
Add other artwork as image sets. Provide 1x, 2x, and 3x versions, and iOS loads the crisp one for each screen.
Naming Assets
Reference any catalog image by its name in code, so swapping artwork later never touches your views.
Image("logo")Dark Mode Variants
An image set can hold a separate dark appearance, so iOS shows the right artwork when the user switches the system theme.
Quick Check
You have prepped your visuals. One quick question about icons.
Recap
You prepared your app visuals: a single high-res app icon, a clean launch screen, an accent color, and named image sets in the asset catalog. ✨
